Okay, I'm sold

That was a great speech.  It seemed heartfelt, and I have to admit it's a testament to her character that she could transcend her obvious disappointment to make such a rousing and real speech on behalf of the man with whom she has been at throats for months.

Great line about female astronauts an presidents.  Great line about 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling (even if she's selling herself short by failing to mention her caucus voters).

Only a few boos in the audience when Obama was first named.  They were gone by the end of the speech.

I could support her for VP.

This is why she could concede tuesday night.  There would have been boos and hissing and that would have ended up in a GOP ad.  This way HRC supporters and cheers for both HRC and BO.

Re: Okay, I'm sold (none / 0)

Makes sense to me.  Also makes sense that she should have a few days to gather her composure.

Good Point, maybe it was a good decision to wait until today.

Yes, because it wouldn't (none / 0)

have seemed sincere Tuesday night. Also, if she'd had a good concession speech already prepared, a lot of her supporters would have been angry. They would have felt betrayed.

Plus, people were focused on Obama's victory and his speech that night. Her endorsement would have received less attention. It was better this way.

Oh I totally agree - there was no WAY she could have conceded Tuesday night.

I thought the same thing.

Unless she came to St. Paul, concession wasn't in the cards Tuesday.  Too many dashed hopes.  Unrealistic.

Re: Okay, I'm sold (none / 0)

those boos today are from Limbaugh's "operation chaos"

Loved the speech. time to move on.
I'd rather have Jim Webb or someone with military experience on the ticket for VP though, because Obama is going to be grilled on him not having any. But if he puts Clinton there, it won't affect my decision at all.

I was thinking Ed Rendell (none / 0)

Healing, pulls in Appalachia, and gives Obama a kick ass VP.

Re: I was thinking Ed Rendell (none / 0)

Ed Rendell works for me--for those reasons and for the big-time Clinton connection.  He'd seal the deal on PA and probably bring OH over as well--and that would likely clinch the electoral map.

Plus, I like Ed a lot.  He's honest and plain-spoken almost to a fault.

And he could actually break knuckles and twist arms to get legislation passed as VP.

Maybe find a job for Harold Ickes while we're at it--he could bust up some kneecaps and bite some people, too!

Re: I was thinking Ed Rendell (none / 0)

Of course, we'll not know for sure until we know, but as someone who lives just outside PA's capital, I can tell you than Ed Rendell has been asked many times on our local news about VP.  He's indicated two things consistently:  (1) he wouldn't want it, (2) he feels he'd be more of a liability than a benefit.  By that, I mean he readily acknowledges he's not always so politically correct, and he often catches hell for his very blunt off-the-cuff statements.  Also, although I'm a supporter of his (he came through and spoke/met with our small Business Association of Gays and Lesbians when first running for Governor [maybe only 30 members present that night] and garnered a lot of support there), he's not universally liked in PA.  His main popularity is in the Philly region where he came from, but he's not nearly as popular or well-liked in the Harrisburg or more rural areas of PA where Barack really needs to build his support levels.

Re: I was thinking Ed Rendell (none / 0)

I didn't know that.  He's obviously popular enough to put together majorities to get elected.

Not being too PC could actually help Obama really, depending on the specifics.

Re: I was thinking Ed Rendell (none / 0)

Well, I think he'd definitely be able to help Obama in those wealthier more suburban counties around Philly that Obama wasn't able to get in the Primaries.  I see what you mean about not being too PC, but I guess you're also correct in that whether it would help or hurt would depend on the specifics.

Nothing short of historic (2.00 / 3)

I was going to call it powerful. Then I switched to brilliant. Now I want to call it historic, and I don't mean because of its relation to Barack Obama.

A powerful pep-talk for a feminist movement in dire need. Absolutely incredible. I'd support her for VP, and that's something of a breakthrough for me. She's proven her character and proven the insight of her staunchest supporters.

The woman is a marvel.

The reason she won't get the VP slot (1.00 / 1)

was standing in the audience next to Chelsea.

Remember, these folks are professionals. Bill
knows he'd have to free his accounts to give
her a full shot at the VP slot, and he's not
going to do that; neither is she. So the only
way for her to get the slot would be for the
O campaign to give them a free past on their
past.

They're not going to do that. That said, I'm
glad she finally made the speech.

It was a wonderful speech (none / 0)

I was angry at the way she handled Tues. night after Obama crossed the threshold, but I see I was wrong.

That speech was worth waiting for, and now I understand that it could not have been done Tues. for several reasons.
